Itinerary

There is a certain majesty seeing a large Pacific thundering along the Great Western Mainline past the old Swindon Works and onwards through Box Tunnel; coupled with joyful memories of using our BR Black Pannier 9600 to bank “Lizzie” up the Lickey incline; mix in a second Pannier 7752 (L94) in its London Transport livery and we believe we have the beginnings of a very exciting day out!

6201 Princess Elizabeth will start the tour at Solihull with a pickup at Dorridge; we run through Banbury towards Oxford and Didcot. We then double-back along Brunel’s billiard-table through Box Tunnel, descending towards Bath before reaching our planned destination, the port of Bristol.

At Bristol we stop for a few hours to service the engine before returning to the Midlands via Bristol Parkway, Wickwar Tunnel and through Cheltenham. Upon approach to Bromsgrove we will briefly pause while our two Panniers attach at the rear of the train for the ascent of the Lickey incline to Blackwell Summit.

After we pass over the Chiltern Mainline, the Panniers will take the lead as the train reverses back to our passenger stops at Solihull and finally Dorridge.

Steam hauled throughout by 6201 Princess Elizabeth, joined by Panniers 9600 & L94 (7752) at Bromsgrove.
