Stars At Tyseley
4003 Lode Star was saved for preservation and was restored to original condition at Swindon for display. Probably the only engine still 'untouched' since leaving Swindon Works it is unlikely to steam again.
It visited Tyseley for an Open Day on 24 October 2010 and a Photograhper's Evening on 30 October 2010.
Stars are no strangers to Tyseley.
4058 Princess Augusta was allocated to Tyseley at the time of Nationalisation and remained a Tyseley engine until withdrawal in April 1951
4056 Princess Margaret (the last active Star) visited Tyseley to haul an SLS Special in 1956. It received 'The Tyseley SLS Treatment' i.e. BR smokebox numberplate removed and GWR style bufferbeam number applied.
4056 was withdrawn in October 1957. However parts of it live on!!!!!! The reverser from Princess Margaret was saved and still sees active use on 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe.

The above photograph of 4056 shows how 4003 may have looked prior to withdrawal in 1951. Note the differences between 4003 as preserved and 4056 in later form e.g. outside elbow steam pipes once added to 4003 now removed, earlier style chimney returned, square covers over inside cylinders, tender.
